PHASE-GUARD RELAYS

Subject: OPTIONS SHEET

REVERSE PHASE PROTECTION: - To order specify 'R'
This feature is available as an option on all models. Since a reverse phase condition is a potentially dangerous situation, allowing motors to run in reverse to their normal direction, the Phase-Guard is designed to react to this condition instantly, by lighting a red led indicator, and by not allowing the unit to reset to normal until the proper phase sequence ABC has been restored.

LOW VOLTAGE PROTECTION: - To order specify 'LV'
This feature is available as an option on all models and protects against the damage which under voltage or  brownouts can cause. It is an independent circuit in the Phase-Guard that will cause the unit to trip when the balanced three phase voltage drops to 70% of the normal operating voltage. The unit will reset to normal when the balanced voltage level returns to 90% of normal. The under voltage led will glow (yellow) to indicate a low voltage condition exists.  A 2 second time delay eliminates unnecessary nuisance tripping.
TIME DELAYS: - To order specify suffix '-T'; or'-ADJ.'
Both fixed and adjustable time delays are available on all Phase-Guard models. The standard fixed time delay is 1-1/2 seconds. When a phase loss or unbalanced condition is sensed, the unit will wait for the time delay to elapse before activating the trip circuit. This feature is helpful in preventing nuisance tripping caused by transients. Adjustable time delays are available in the form of a four (4) position switch. The customer may request any four settings he wishes. Settings of more than 10-12 seconds are not recommended, since possible damage could occur by ignoring a serious phase loss condition for longer time periods.

MANUAL RESET SWITCH: - To order specify suffix 'M/A RESET'
Available on all Phase-Guard models, this feature allows the customer a choice to allow the Phase-Guard to reset automatically after a fault has occurred, or to latch the master relay in the trip position. An led indicator signals that the unit has tripped, and when the manual mode has been selected, the device will remain in that state, (tripped) indefinitely, until manually switched, even though voltage conditions return to normal. In the automatic mode, the unit will reset itself, immediately, without assistance, when normal voltage conditions are restored. This is useful in systems which require maintenance checking before startup.

OVER VOLTAGE PROTECTION: - To order specify `O'
Available on all Phase-Guard models, this feature will cause the unit to trip when the balanced three phase voltage exceeds normal levels by 15%.  The unit will automatically reset when the voltage level returns to 5% above normal (ie. on a 480 volt system the trip point is approx. 550 v. and reset at approx. 505 v).

REMOTE LED INDICATORS: - to order specify suffix `REM LEDS'
Led indicators for normal (green) and phase loss (yellow) are standard on all Phase-Guard models.  Additional indicators for low voltage (yellow), over voltage (yellow), and reverse phase (red), are included when those optional features are ordered.  In addition, led indicators are available in a plug-in cable for remote monitoring purposes.  The standard cable length is 8 ft. but custom lengths are also available.  Snap on lenses and self-adhesive labels are provided along with instructions for installation.  Fault indicators will glow only when a fault occurs, and only while the fault exists.  When normal power is restored the Phase-Guard will reset to normal and the fault led will turn off.

LED LATCH FEATURE: - to order specify suffix `LED Reset'
This option provides the means to maintain led indication of a fault after the fault itself has been cleared and the Phase-Guard has reset to normal. When a fault occurs, the led will glow (solid color).  When the fault is cleared and normal voltage is restored the Phase-Guard will reset to normal (green led will glow), at the same time the fault led will begin flashing and continue to flash until reset pushbutton is pressed. The Phase-Guard will operate normally even if the reset button is not pressed, but the latch option will only flash the most recent fault to occur.

POWER OFF TIME DELAY: - to order specify `C'
. Referred to as our 'C' option, this feature is available on all Phase-Guard models with energized relays (Model P, PR, PLV etc.).  In the event of a total power interruption, this option affords a 4 to 5 second time delay before the master relay will drop out.  If power is restored before the time delay cycle has elapsed, the unit will remain in its normal state.  This is extremely desirable in applications where a backup power source is needed.  These installations, such as hospitals, do not wish to switch to auxiliary power unless necessary, but if power is off longer than 5 seconds the Phase-Guard will trip, signaling the switch to generator power

ENCLOSURE: - to order specify `E'
A standard, hinged, 8X6X4' NEMA  #12 enclosure is available for the Phase-Guard.  Made of steel and UL listed, it is suitable for both indoor and outdoor use.  A hole is provided at the input terminal end to accommodate a ¾' conduit fitting.  Mounting holes are 8 ¾” X 4”.
